There are four different types of muscle contracts. The four types are isometric, isotonic, concentric, and eccentric contracts. An isometric contract is when there is a change in muscle tension without any change in muscle length. An example would be pushing against an immovable object (Ex. Pushing into a wall). An isotonic contraction is constant muscle tension without a change in muscle length. Isotonic is different from an isometric contraction because it occurs when the contraction force matches the total load on a muscle. An example would be walking or running. A concentric contract is when the muscle tension is overcoming a load causing the muscle to shorten. An example would be the coming up phase of a bicep curl. Now, an eccentric contract is when the muscle works to decelerate a joint at the end of a movement causing the muscle to lengthen. An example would be the lowering phase of a bicep curl. I hope this makes sense. Let me know what you think!
