Macronutrients are nutrients that supply the body with energy. These consist of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Protein is important for many of the body’s functions. Things like tissue structure, hormone system, metabolic system, transport system, enzymes that regulate metabolism, and balancing the acid/ base environment of the body. To have it make more sense things like the cell membranes, organs, muscle, hair, skin, nails, bones, tendons, ligaments, and blood plasma are affected by protein. Carbohydrates also known as carbs are the body’s primary fuel source. Carbs are stored as glycogen which provides energy to our muscles and nervous system during movement and exercise. Fats are important for the body as an energy reserve. Fats help with insulation and protection of the organs, and for absorption and transportation of fat soluble vitamins. These fat soluble vitamins include vitamin A,D,E, and K. These are just some of the basic understanding of macronutrients and what it does for our body. I hope this makes sense.
